This antique birdcage automaton ( boîte à oiseau chanteur )
is a French product of Bontemps, a dynasty of french automaton producers and is dated around or before 1900. The cage is in good condition, though the bird is missing the tail feather and the perch is tarnished -- with careful and inexpensive restoration, however, it can be brought back to its original state. The mechanism and music box that makes the bird sing and move its tail works, and can be activated and silenced through the two levers on the bottom of the cage.
The entire cage is roughly 11'' in height and 7'' in diameter at the base.
